Peonies are a second passion. The 380 named varieties we grow include species, herbaceous, tree and Itoh or intersectionals. These hardy, disease-resistant perennials not only provide masses of bloom for seven weeks but are attractive garden plants from the first red sprouts in spring until well into autumn. Come often to view the many rare varieties, both heritage and new. Choose your peony according to foliage and growth habit in the garden, rather than just a photograph.
The 22-acre country property also features year-round interest with many garden structures, perennial beds, a rockery, scree area, natural pond and moist-soil garden. These complement one of the largest private delphinium and peony collections available for viewing.
Visitors are welcome at the nursery to view our many perennial beds and trial gardens. The main show for peony flowers is the month of June, with a few blooming in late May and early July. Delphiniums tend to flower from mid-June to mid-July and again in late summer into autumn.
New perennials are trialed in the gardens with ‘tough love,’ before they are offered for sale. Potted plants are available all season, as well as exceptional cut flowers and dried flowers. Buy directly from the growers.
Visitors welcome. Open by appointment or chance. Come for a stroll.
